2 rental cars for the price of 1
So...I start work on Monday. I also need to take the X-terra to the shop by Monday to begin fixing its minor bumps and bruises. I convinced State Farm to cover a rental for Sat and Sunday (and the remainder of shop-time). Then, I'm dropping my car off at the shop on Sunday night, so that I have a car for Monday morning to be at work on time.
While Eric and I were perusing around town, taking care of the rental vehicle, the Passat's check-engine light started blinking and the car started riding really rough. Thank God we were really close to the house and were able to drive back safely. It was now 1:00 and Volkswagen closes its service department at 1:00 and Eric's car is not drivable...he thinks the coil packs are shoddy. So, Eric and I drove my new rental (2007, black, Nissan Versa, really cute) back to Enterprise and got him a less cute, grandma blue, crappy, Chevy Aveo. We now have 4 vehicles at the house. The tow truck is due any minute to carry Eric's Passat away to get fixed.
To make matters worse, the refrigerator started making this hissing sound and was leaking a little puddle of water on the floor. Scared to death that we were getting poisoned by freon, Bentley and I sat outside for most of the afternoon (on Friday) waiting for the repair man to rescue us. Considering the convenient time window of "sometime between 5:00 and 8:00", Eric, Bentley, and I waited in the X-terra since it was raining cats and dogs by this time. Bentley ended up falling asleep while Eric and I passed the time playing a few rounds of hangman and taking some funny pictures with our camera phones.
The repair man came at 6:30 and abruptly asked "What hiss?" like we were imagining things. After pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, water started gushing everywhere. Apparently, the hose that supplied water and ice had a leak. After turning off the water supply, and choosing not to repair the leaky hose since that part of the refrigerator is a bit crusty and rather gross, the repair man was on his way.
About a minute later, Eric noticed that the carpet in the back bedroom was soaking wet and stupidly asked "Why's the carpet all wet?" Duh! It's hard to believe that someone so smart just can't make the obvious connection sometimes. I don't mind...it makes me feel smart. We ended up "shop-vacking" about 15 gallons of water last night...not fun. I guess since the kitchen floor is slightly uneven, the water poured behind the fridge and into the back bedroom instead of in front of it. Convenient, huh? What a mess!
I hope this gray cloud lifts soon!
