Chapter Two...Texas bound, heehaw
So this is my blog. Like Eric (ericbchristopher.blogspot.com), I also never thought that I would have a blog...but its a great way to share my newest photographs, and older ones too! And since were about to start a new adventure in life, I hope this helps to keep in touch with all of our family at home and all of the friends we've met in Maryland.
Tomorrow begins the 2nd chapter of our life with God only knowing how many more that it will open. Our road trip (to Austin, TX) will begin before sunrise and will end nearly 24 hours worth of driving later!!!! I'm both looking forward to it and dreading it the same time. Hopefully "B-dog" will keep me company since Eric will be driving seperately. Ready or not, here we come!
Life throughout the past week has been interesting. Since we decided that Eric driving a U-Haul and towing his car wouldn't be the smartest thing to do from Maryland to Texas, we decided to do the PODS thing....where they drop off a large storage container and let you fill it at your leisure for about a week and then pick it up and truck it to your destination (a brief description for all you POD virgins out there!). Thank God for friends who can lift heavy things! Thanks Dave for putting those bulging biceps and rock hard gluts on the line for us so that our guests may have the comfort of sleeping on an adjustable (and vibrating?) craftmatic bed....thanks Mom & Dad for the hand-me-down! And if anyone out there has ever attempted to lift a craftmatic bed, you know that Dave is a true friend and can trust that my description of him is not a lie. But then again, my husband helped.... and they sort of pulled it (red faced and teeth clenching) with a drop sheet instead of lifting it...I can only assume that there was a little grunting and a lot of whimpering involved...and a lot of aches and pains the next day. What men! But I must say that they did a great job and did it quickly...but then again time does fly when your showering and doing your hair as the action enfolds around you.
The POD was packed and shipped last Thursday and since today is Friday, you can only imagine how life has been the last week. An air mattress, 2 camp chairs, a guitar, computer and ipod is all that surrounds us in our empty 4 bedroom rental in Kensington, MD. How life changes without a couch! Bentley seems to love being at sleeping level with us and loves to hover over us in the morning. Trust me, warm and misty panting is not the best way to awake. Besides that, the air mattress is suprisingly comfortable. Speaking of Bentley, he's all curled up and snoring in the office closet (I love that dog!). I wonder what new spots Bentley will find in our new rental. He'll no longer have eye level window to people/dog watch through or to smudge up. No more triangle step for him to perfectly curl up and look adorable on. I'm sure he'll settle in just fine and he'll love the fenced in yard...as will we...no more poops on a leash as he encircles 20+ times the radius of the leash length until he finds the perfect smelling spot to "drop a duece" on (that means poop for all of my "English as a second language" friends who curse at the sound of an idiom). How our life will change!
Wednesday was my offical last day of work. A lot of cake, icecream, hugs, some presents, long goodbyes, some tears, and whole heck of a lot of memories. I can only hope that I will find a place like Georgetown in Texas. I will greatly miss the friends that I've made, the diversity of ethnicities, and the truely unique characters that I've worked with. I will never, ever meet another Kassahaun Liben ever! Any man that eats with numchucks is a friend of mine! (he thought that chopsticks were called numchucks, and that chapstick was called chopsticks!?!) What a great guy...a little chaotic and tad sporadic but you couldn't ask for a harder worker or a bigger heart. I'll miss you bud! Good luck with your marriage. If you visit me in TX, bring your "naughty monkey boots" you'll fit right in!
Well that's enough for this blog. I have to finish packing all the little stuff that's scattered throughout the house. I guess it's my punishment for grooming while the guys lifted the heavy stuff and were pouring out sweat literally like the Gatorade commercials, minus the color. Although Dave did have a little red dripping from his eye....I think that he must have burst a blood vessel during the "craftmatic experience"...jk :) Till next time.
