Almost done
Here's an almost finished product. We don't have our rug or any pictures hung yet but here's a pic of the wall color, molding, ceiling, new bedding, and the homemade tufted headboard. I'm having issues with dust on my lens and I'm thinking it needs to be professionally cleaned so this is the best pic that I got so far with a lot of touch-ups to remove all the dust speckles. Eric's working on crafting the cabinet doors and then he's going to give the whole built-in a nice fresh coat of paint. We had fun with this project and have learned a lot. Each thing that we tried, we had struggles with. Not one thing went without a hitch. Here's a list of a few...
1. Chemical burns from the stripper...ouch! The quality of the stripper made the scars worthwhile. You can't beat a 5 second wait time from application to removal.
2.Vinegar smelling hair and hair ties lasting days. Bloggers recommended vinegar diluted water for the popcorn ceiling removal. Here's a tip, just use warm water...it works fine and causes less gagging.
3. Eleven hours of neck breaking ceiling repair. I don't recommend it. I don't hate popcorn ceilings that bad anymore if this is what it takes to replace them. In fact, I'm quite fond of them.
4. Paint color...Who knew that I'd prime the ceiling 3 times and paint it 2 times and prime and paint the walls twice? My neck really hates me. This was where Eric and I had most of our disagreements over. I was not about to put this much work into it and not be pleased with the color. Verdict...pale avocado and cream silk.
5. The crown molding. Our corners aren't perfect but they will be next time. Live and learn. ;)
6. The light fixture. I learned that if the installer doesn't install a ceiling fan correctly, it could lead to an interesting and frightening experience for the girl who single handedly tries to take it down. By the way, we're not sure we love the light yet...any comments?
7. The electrical. We hate blue electrical boxes. 3.5 inch stripped screws are from hell!
8. Tufted headboard. Make-your-own buttons aren't as easy as you'd think and they require an uncanny amount of thumb power. And, Eric's grid making skills could use a little work too. Don't ever marry an engineer for his math skills. Who would have thunk?
9. Cabinet doors...to be continued. So far we have learned that pocket joiners rule! Oh...Eric bought a table saw. Move over Bob Vila. Woobies.

Holy smoke! I'm IMPRESSED!!!! This looks awesome! I like everything - even the quilt on the bed :-) I can't believe you guys made the headboard. Love the color. Just a great room. Well done. I like the light...I think it goes with the rest of the house (at least, from what I've seen of it).
You're going to be ready to build your next house at this rate.
